* The newest addition to Doods & Dolls is our Cockapoos! *

Cockapoos are the best of both worlds. The quirky silliness of a cocker spaniel, and the get-up & go of a mini poodle. We’ve all seen the cute scene where Lady sucks up her spaghetti noodles, and she stole the heart of millions. While my Cockapoos haven’t perfected the spaghetti noodle trick, they are 100% going to steal your heart. But unlike Lady’s propensity for stinky ears and bad skin, the cockapoo brings to the table a more balanced healthy coat, less skin and food-related allergy issues, and an overall robustness that our American-bred cocker spaniels are losing slowly. The cockapoo ranges in size from 13-30 lbs. The hair on an F1 is wavy with some light shedding, while an F1b largely has no shedding and a lovely curly coat. These little guys are energetic balls of fun, social butterflies, athletic, and agile. Our ideal cockapoo home is able to go for a daily walk, provide a daily brain activity (fetch, food puzzles, etc), and not scared of an adventure where they can get dirty occasionally. We work very very hard to eliminate the “small dog naughtiness” that they come out of the packaging with, and have absolutely loved to see the adventures our first cockapoos have gotten into with their families. There is a tendency for them to use their voice to communicate their needs, and baby cockapoos have very short attention spans (although this gets much better by 20-22 weeks!).

Both cockers and small poodles carry a gene that puts them at risk for a back disorder (did you know that ALL american cockers carry both copies of this gene??), but due to careful breeding selection, it is our hopes to eliminate that gene from our program by 2025. We see big things coming for our cockapoo program, and hope you stick around to see it!!
